ASL Interpreting Research BC

Welcome to the ASL Interpreting Research BC website. This website serves as a central space for gathering research and reports, for people to share resources and describe ongoing projects to the topic of ASL interpreting in the province. We invite you to explore the resources here and upload any additional research or reports you think will add to the knowledge and understanding of the past and current landscape.

The lack of interpreting services not only limits access but also has the potential to worsen social, educational, health, and economic inequities within the DHHDB community. While past efforts have taken a sector-by-sector approach, we are committed to adopting a whole system approach to resolve this issue and promote inclusion across all areas of life.

Our goal is to facilitate a collaborative review process in preparation for a summit-style event, where we will bring stakeholders together to explore challenges, address key issues, and work collectively towards innovative, authentic, and sustainable solutions. By working together, we aim to envision and implement effective strategies to resolve the interpreter services shortage, creating a more sustainable system for the future.

About

We are a collective of leaders and stakeholders from diverse sectors, including education, health, and community services, dedicated to addressing the critical shortage of sign language interpreters. Our mission is to create meaningful change that improves the lives of Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and DeafBlind (DHHDB) individuals who are deeply impacted by this shortage.
